Local SEO in Puerto Vallarta: rank on the map and in "near me" searches

Google Business Profile, reviews, local citations and area pages so you show up in the map pack when people search around the corner.

Almost half of all Google searches have local intent, and in a destination like Puerto Vallarta the share is even higher: someone just landed, pulls out their phone and types "restaurant near me" or "dentist in Vallarta". Local SEO is the work that decides whether your business shows up at that moment — or the one across the street does.

It is not won with the same recipe as traditional SEO. What counts here is your Google Business Profile, physical proximity, consistent business data across directories, the volume and freshness of your reviews, and having real pages by area and by service on your site. That is exactly what I work on.

The map pack is where local search is decided: pins, reviews and a well-maintained business listing.
What's included

Showing up on the map, not just in the blue links

The map pack takes most local clicks. That is where we compete.

🗺️

Google Business Profile

Claiming or rescuing the profile, the right primary category, services, attributes, hours, real photos and regular posts. A wrong primary category is the #1 mistake I find.

Review strategy

A simple system to ask for reviews without pestering customers, plus replies to all of them — including the bad ones, which are also a ranking signal.

📇

Citations and NAP

Identical name, address and phone across Google, Apple Maps, TripAdvisor, Facebook and local directories. Inconsistencies cost you positions.

🏘️

Area and neighborhood pages

Genuine content per area (Centro, Zona Romántica, Marina, Nuevo Vallarta, Bucerías…) instead of the same page cloned with the name swapped.

🧩

Local structured data

LocalBusiness schema with geolocation, hours and service area so Google understands where you are and who you serve.

📊

Tracking by location

Monthly report of rankings measured from real points around the city, plus calls, directions and website clicks from your profile.

Who it's for

Businesses that live on being found nearby

🍽️

Restaurants and bars

Tourists decide where to eat on the map, two blocks away, with a photo. Pairs with a restaurant website.

🏥

Clinics, spas and practices

Urgent, high-intent searches: "dentist near me", "massage today". Winning the map means winning the appointment.

🏡

Real estate and rentals

Complements the portal and MLS work of a real estate website with local visibility by area.

🛠️

Home services

Plumbing, A/C, locksmiths, pool maintenance: here the service area matters more than the street address.

🛥️

Tours and activities

Competing with OTAs for the direct booking starts with showing up on the map with fresh reviews.

🏬

Brick-and-mortar shops

If customers have to physically show up, every position in the map pack turns into foot traffic.

Is your competition on the map and you're not?

I'll review your Business Profile and local presence and tell you what is holding you back. If you also want the full organic work, it integrates with SEO positioning or with the SEO agency service.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Local SEO

What is local SEO and how is it different from regular SEO?+

Local SEO is about showing up when someone searches for a service near their location: in the Google map pack, in Google Maps and in "near me" searches. Unlike traditional SEO, what weighs most here is your Google Business Profile, physical proximity, reviews and consistent business data across directories — not just your site content.

How long does it take to improve my position on the Google map?+

Business Profile changes (category, services, photos, hours) can show up within weeks. Winning stable positions in the map pack in a competitive area like Centro or the Zona Romántica in Puerto Vallarta usually takes 2 to 4 months of steady work on reviews, citations and local content.

Do I need a physical address to do local SEO?+

It helps a lot, but it is not always required. If you serve customers at their location (plumbing, A/C, photography, tours) you can set your profile up as a service-area business without displaying the address. What Google does not allow is fake addresses or virtual offices — that gets profiles suspended.

Why does my competitor rank first on the map with a worse website?+

Because in the map pack the website is only one factor. The winner is usually whoever has the right category, more recent reviews, consistent data across directories and closer proximity to the searcher. It is common to see businesses with mediocre sites dominating the map simply because their profile is well maintained.

Do Google reviews affect rankings?+

Yes, in two ways: quantity, frequency and rating are local ranking signals, and they also directly influence whether the customer picks you over the business next door. I set up a simple system to request them without pestering anyone, and I reply to all of them — including negative ones, which still count as activity.

Is local SEO useful if my customers are tourists rather than residents?+

Even more so. Tourists search from their phone, already in Puerto Vallarta, with extremely high immediate purchase intent: "restaurant near me", "whale tour today", "pharmacy open now". If you are not on the map, that search goes to someone two blocks away.
